Philips Fidelio AS140/37 docking station review

Price(4/5):
Design(4.5/5):
Features(4.5/5):
Overall Score:4.3
Advantages Disadvantages
  • Has display brightness controls that let you dim that clock light at nighttime,
  • Built in AM/FM radio,
  • Have both Bluetooth and MP link (3.5 mm audio jack),
  • Dual alarm setting,
  • One year warranty
  • Not enough treble and bass,
  • Clock positioned at the wrong place as you can’t see the time when something is in front of this docking station,
  • Bluetooth connection sometimes disconnects from your device by itself,
  • No batteries so power outages can ruin your morning (but if you install android application then dock syncs with your smartphone!),
  • No remote control,
  • Fidelio application is almost useless,
  • Flexi dock doesn’t work properly with devices that have the micro USB port on the side edge of the phone(when you touch the screen the connection is lost).

Philips AS140 dock front viewThis is one of the Philips Fidelio line android docking stations / speakers. This dock is perfect as a workstation as you can listen to music, see social updates and also charge your phone but it also works as an alarm clock with built in LCD display and dual alarm setting for two people.

Because this dock is designed to fit all smartphones it has a sliding Flexidock that has amazing capabilities. Flexi dock as for all the Fidelio line docking stations gives you the freedom to dock any Android smartphone or tablet and the thing I liked is that you can even slide it forward and back to accommodate thicker or thinner devices and of course the side to side sliding mechanism is great to position any device in the middle!

This docking station is equipped with two 5W speakers that are shielded from your phone so you don’t get any interference while you are using internet or calling someone. The sound quality is acceptable and the loudness gets quite high but the advertised extra bass is just not there but you should expect that from such a small device like this. Overall the sound quality is good and if you tinker with your devices bass settings and docks bass setting you can get a good quality sound that will definitely be better than your phones built in speakers and some other alarm clocks!

This device also has buttons at the top for easy music playback and snooze function so you can adjust your volume and change songs from your devices touch screen but also from the top!

The overall look and feel of this device is quite solid and it will fit in any environment ranging from your office to bedroom and everything in the middle. This dock is made from plastic but it looks stunning with that rectangle shape and that glared plastic. it has a size of 8.1 x 5.9 x 12.6 inches (20.5 cm x 15 cm x 32 cm) but it weighs 4.4 pounds (2 kg) so it is not flimsy or lightweight but small enough to be portable!

Fidelio AS140 37 side viewIf you use an Android device to dock in this station you will also have the ability to download a Fidelio docking application that easily lets you synchronize your device to this dock and also has some great features for you to explore while both devices are connected.

Another great thing is the Bluetooth connection that allows you to play music without the need to plug in that 3.5 mm audio jack, but if you have a device without Bluetooth you have the option to connect that MP3 link so this can be considered a real multi-functional dock.

When you purchase this dock you get the dock itself, AC/DC adapter, user manual, quick start guide and warranty information that says you have a one year limited warrant so that is another great advantage!

Overall this Fidelio AS140/37 docking station with 10 W sound output is great for home or office use and it has a lot of features that makes the price look appealing. The build quality and sound are both good and we give this dock a great overall review of 8 out of 10!
