SonaVERSE BX review

SonaVERSE BX is a portable boom box speaker that has been created with the everyday user in mind, so GOgroove has designed this not only as a rechargeable battery powered speaker, but also as an Android docking station that can charge up your phone while you listen to music.

GOgroove SonaVERSE BX

This boom box has one of the best designs you will find on portable speakers with that box shaped form as well as those stylish LED indicator diodes and blue accents that will certainly make your friends look back at your boom box. If you look at this speaker from a glance then it has the dimensions of 5 inches x 4.25 inches x 4 inches (12.7 cm x 10.7 cm x 10.1 cm) so it is a very small device and it weighs just 23 ounces (650 grams) and that includes two drivers, all the electronics and also a built in rechargeable battery. As you can see from those measurements this speaker dock has almost cubical design and that looks just amazing but those accents that are all around this device makes it that much better. There are dark blue accents around this device and they are on the edges of sides, and they can also be found on volume knob and around control buttons. The whole design is somewhat futuristic and those side facing drivers with cool blue lines around them look beautiful.

But when you look at the technologies that are incorporated in this dock you will soon forget about the design as there are two 3W speakers, a rechargeable battery, micro USB for charging and regular USB as well as a card reader for music playback right from a flash drive or SD card, but there is also a 3.5 mm audio jack that allows you to play music from your phone.

Speakers & sound

As I mentioned before there are two 3W side facing speakers that give you the total power output of around 6W, but because this is a mini boom box, those drivers are designed to have a max output level of around 12 W and from a device this small that is just astonishing. The sound quality from those loudspeakers is amazing and you will hear low as well as high level tones and surprisingly, but even the BASS is not that bad considering the size and power output of this dock.

GOgroove SonaVERSE BX functions

Despite the small size, this Android docking speaker has many connections available for you and they are:

  • Micro USB – Micro USB port is for charging up the battery and also for playing music from outlet, while this device is plugged in. This is a regular micro USB port and it receives 5V from AC power adapter that is included in the package.
  • Regular USB – A regular USB port is created, so that you can listen to music from your flash drive or also so that you can charge up your Smartphone either when this speaker is plugged in or when it runs on battery, so it can also be used as a backup charger for your Smartphone.
  • 3.5 mm AUX – This is your typical AUX input that allows you to play music from various different devices including your Android smart phones and other Android products. This is a really great feature as most devices have this AUX output port available.
  • SD slot – Unlike many other portable speaker docks this can also play music from a SD card that can be put inside the dock itself and powered by internal battery. This can be quite convenient as you don’t need any additional devices, but just take this cube shaped device and play as you go.

GOgroove SonaVERSE BX battery

This amazing Android speaker dock also has a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery that has the capacity of 600 mAh and that is capable of supplying up to 3.7 V of power. I must admit that this is not the biggest battery I have ever seen, but it is big enough to power this dock for about 3 to 5 hours. If you crank the sound up to the max and also play music from a USB flash drive then you will get some 3 to 4 hours of continuous play time, but if you use a Smartphone’s 3.5 mm AUX jack and a reasonable sound level you can easily get 5 to 6 hours from this speaker.

Overall I feel that this is a really great speaker and I can strongly advise it to anyone that needs a portable, cool looking speaker for parties and outdoor activities. The price is amazing and the design alone is worth that money, so don’t wait and snatch one up right away!
